According to Astrology there are only 12 types of people in the world?

Posted by admin on Oct 12, 2008

I don't understand how this (practice, following, religion? whatever you call it) works. For example my friend is a Gemini just like me. That means we both have the same horoscope every day. So whenever he finds love, I find love. He gets a promotion, I get a promotion. He takes a loss, I take a losss. Not only do him and I share the same forecasts, but 10s of millions of Geminis across the world as well are subject to the same "destinys" on the same day. That seems a bit far-fetched to me. It also seems a bit ridiculous for the guy who made up astrology to categorize billions of people into 12 sets. So there are only 12 different kinds of people in the world? It seems to be the mindset anyway, when I read people asking questions here like "Does anyone here hate snobby Libras?". To me, the mindset that follows almost breeds a sub-type of racism where people are labeled and stereotyped. I apologize if my question lacks education on this subject. Does anyone else see this?

Don't forget the "cusps" meaning some "share" two signs. That makes 24 different types of people. Also there is the 13th sign (Ophiuchus) most ignore but is there.
Astrology does show a type of bigotry. Is it right to prejudge a person due to birthdate? We do not have any control of when we are born. But there are people that think they can without ANY science or statistics to back up their claim.

There are those who defend astrology by pointing out how accurate professional horoscopes are. Astrology “works,” it is said, but what does that mean? Basically, to say astrology works means that there are a lot of satisfied customers and one can shoehorn any event to fit a chart. It does not mean that astrology is accurate in predicting human behavior or events to a degree significantly greater than mere chance. There are many satisfied customers who believe that their horoscope accurately describes them and that their astrologer has given them good advice. Such evidence does not prove astrology so much as it demonstrates the Forer effect, and confirmation bias. Good astrologers give good advice, but that does not validate astrology. There have been several studies that have shown that people will use selective thinking to make any chart they are given fit their preconceived notions about themselves and their charts. Many of the claims made about signs and personalities are vague and would fit many people under many different signs. Even professional astrologers, most of whom have nothing but disdain for sun sign astrology, can’t pick out a correct horoscope reading at better than a chance rate. Yet, astrology continues to maintain its popularity, despite the fact that there is scarcely a shred of scientific evidence in its favor.

Astology is not science, it is magical thinking. Learn to embrace reality.

There is more to it than that. It is based on where you were born, time etc. Try combining your sign with the Chinese zodiac and you will see a better picture.

It's fake. Just like 'numerology', 'reflexology', religion, etc.
It's just something people WANT to be live in.
Also, I've heard that since the 'invention' of astrology, the stars and planets are no longer in the same alignment, rendering a bogus practice even more irrelevant.

The one question I've always wanted to ask a believer in astrology is: What is the physical process that happens between where the stars are, and personality traits?

It's silly.

Yes, there are 12 types of people! Obviously, the way the stars looked at your time of birth affected every single event in your life, with their magical star-powers.

In all actuality, there was a study where they gave a group of people horoscopes that were supposed to be based on their date of birth. All of the people said that the horoscopes were pretty accurate. Then they were told to hand them to the person next to them. Lo and behold, they were all the same horoscope, because horoscopes are written in a way that they sound right to everyone.

You are thinking that the little 'horoscope' you see in the newspaper or online is 'accurate' for 'everyone born under that sign' … and that is 'all' of astrology. In fact there is 'a world of difference' to 'real astrology' … and there are not just 'twelve types' of people, but there is 'a type' for every possible 'combination' of the 'planets and aspects' in the 'circle' of the 'year' … so try this 'math' for size … there are twelve 'basic signs' and there are 30 'degrees' in each of those twelve signs … so 12X30 is your 'first calculation' … then there are 12 planets, so you should multiply the first answer by 12 again … then there are the 'days' that people are born … and that is an 'unknowable number' but you need to 'multiply by that' again … and you must also add in 'where' the person is born on this planet 'down to the 'minute' of longitude and latitude, so multiply by THAT … so your 'twelve types' of people are now basically 'so many types' as to be uncountable.
Astrology doesn't give HARD RULES, it just gives 'indications' … and even if a person has been an 'astrologer' for many years (well over 20) there is going to be 'one chart' that makes them 'fall out of their chair' in surprise … but your question doesn't 'surprise me' at all, and yes, you are 'uneducated' but at least you are asking a 'good question' about a subject that you are at least TRYING to understand … and the 'difference' between the 'horoscopes' you can find in a newspaper and online and that you would 'get' from a GOOD ASTROLOGER are so 'different' that they seem to be from 'different universes' … and I 'know this because …
References :
I have a friend who is a 'good astrologer' with a 98.9% 'accuracy' rating on the natal charts she casts … and she got 'into' astrology many years ago to 'prove that it couldn't work.' OOPS. My husband is 'the one who made her 'fall out of her chair' … because he's got 11 of the twelve different 'planets' and aspects all in ONE HOUSE … (you CAN'T have 12, because one has it's opposite on the other side of the circle).

I've heard said that beliefs create reality, so to me, the only truth in astrology is that when some people read their horoscope and believe it they are influenced to act in a way such as in self seeking prophecy, and thay are the ones creating the truth, so they believe their horoscope.
They also say bad things about scorpios, which is what I am, giving me all the more reason not to believe in that merlin the majician stuff

no, you just have one sign you were born under.

but everyone is different according to their birth chart.

like if they were born on a certain month, a certian day, a certain time of the day, where you where born, and your gender. all these things matter to what different star signs ect is in your birth chart. so NO

there is not only 12 different types of people in this world.

Its actually 144 types. If you think sun signs are the root of Astrology you know nothing about Astrology! For example Taurus and Cancer should get along great right? So why do so many of those relationships fail look at the Venus, Moon and Mars signs! Oppositions cause attraction but squares cause tension. Too much tension like a rubber band and the bond between the two breaks.

no of course every person has thier own individual differences..however horoscopes ARE true, they can tell the basic characterists/traits of a person… for example, i love staying in rather than going out, i love to cook, i love to clean, i love to make my house look very cozy and comfortable, i am way too emotional, i like to nurture others, instead of firing back at somebody after they have hurt me, i like to "sulk" and then eventually get over it. Then when I read my horoscope, I found out I was a cancer/ "moonchild". It is just totally true.. unlike my other freinds who are gemini they are soooo talkative…or scorpios who are soooooo mysterious and very very sexual ppl.. I used to always think "damn my brother is way tooooooo picky" ..and then I realized he is a virgo. It is the basic things but if u really take the time to look at it u will find that it is true.. I mean its much deeper than what u think, but the basics are almost right every single time!

The basic astrology that you read your horoscope by in the paper and such uses only sun signs, based on your date of birth solely. Everyone also has a moon sign, a rising sign, and then if you want to get really into it, each planets alignment at the time and place of birth intersecting each of the other planets also plays a role. Also you have to take into consideration the elements of each sign, the fixation, and so on… There are some good sights if you want more information on this sort of thing. I wouldn't take any of it super serious, but it is kind of fun!

No; you're oversimplifying. Horoscopes are vague interpretations mostly intended in fun. Serious astrology does not take into account only a range of birthdays, but the specific date, time, and location of the subject's birth.

First of all, I am a western medicine trained physcian and anatomy professor. So one would not expect me to put much stock in astrology. But I can say that contempt prior to investigation is a bar against any learning. I admire the asker for asking for more information.
A couple of things that that she may not be aware of is that your true "horoscope" also takes into account your time of birth and location at birth. If an author is writing for the paper (astrology.com seems pretty good), they will assume a birth time of dawn and describe only in general terms what a particular "aspect" indicates. For example when the planet mecury is retrograde (appearing to be travelling in reverse) it is not a great time to sign a contract (if possible).
My first reading was simply a very grounded person telling me what the aspects of my birth chart seem to indicate in the hundreds of people he has seen.
For example the planet mars (desires) was directly opposite the planet saturn (limits). He stated this would be seen in someone who feels their desires are often frustrated.
Lastly I suggest googling "saturn return". At about age 30 Saturn returns to its birth position. This a very strong time of learning limits etc…for many people.
Best wishes,
Mark

No, there are not only 12 types of people in the world. There are 12 Sun sign horoscopes, plus a Rising sign and a moon sign. This has to do with where the planets were at the date, time and place you were born. Even triplets have different scopes due to different birth times. I am a cancerian Sun sign, I have several planets in both Fire and Air, therefore I am more outgoing than most cancers. I hope this helps, my hubby and I had our complete charts done before we got married, everything worked. That does not mean you aren't going to fight or argue–we are human.

horoscopes are like tarot card readings. the majority of the time, they will be vague and you can apply it to any aspect of your life. a smaller portion of the time, they will sound like they are telling you how you should handle a certain situation. and an equally small portion of the time, it will make entirely no sense at all.

The time of day you were born, is the most important when reading your horoscope. This is called your ascendent. This is your inner personality and what your chart is based on. The sun sign is how you seem to the world. Your moon sign is your emotional reaction. There are 12 sun signs, with 12 ascendents within the Sun Signs and 12 emotional reactive/needs qualities withing the 12 ascendents. So, this is how many personalities and sub-types there are.

No. According to astrology, the location of all the planets and some major asteroids at the time of your birth gives information about you, your personality and your generation. It gets boiled down to sun sign astrology for hobbyists, but that is not the essence of astrology.

Having said that I have seen the pattern in my life, that I am fiercely attracted to Gemini men and I get hurt each time. Not once or twice, but like 6 times. I now stay away from them – and leos too. I simply do not feel compatible with the people I have met under those signs and I am tired of wasting my time trying when there are so many other people in the world. Does that make me a bigot? I don't hate them. I don't ask a politician his sign before I vote for him – or a client or business associate either. But if I find out, I am leary.

There are a finite number of learning styles – why not a fininte number of living styles that folks born near each other have a preference for or against?

Peace!

i know my mother is in to this A LOT. And i mean a lot. Like Sassyk said. it really does depend on when you were born, the time, the year, how the stars and moon and sun were aligned. Also, it depends on your name as well. There are books where you can look up the name of a person. Also within the Astrological signs there are the day you were born that differs you from the other people with the same sign. It is a complete mixture of different things in astrology. It is just that the most common are the signs.

I would love to go into detail, but I'm too tired. On any given day, for example, there are 144 million possible combinations of Gemini; taking planets, degrees, aspects, rising signs, midheavens, ic's into account. And it will take that many years before another person will even come close to having those same planetary combinations. Not even twins have the same birth chart. As far as religion? God created the heavens. To everything there is a season. Your natal chart is a gift to you from him, a road map to guide you, along with transits and progressions, throughout your life. You speak from ignorance, which is fine. Ignorance implies a lack of knowledge. Stupidity is a far different matter. That is the unwillingness to learn or open one's eyes. When someone starts asking questions, it shows a willingness to learn. How do you think Einstein got involved in astrology? He first studied it to prove it wrong! Guess what? He, along with many others, turned out to be its staunchest supporters. Because as he said, "Do not speak to me of astrology. For I HAVE STUDIED IT! You, have not!

why we are the way we are also and for some reason my life
