Vedic Astrology: Michael Shermer vs Jeffrey Armstrong

Posted by admin on Oct 12, 2008

In a scenario set up to debunk astrology, Jeffrey Armstrong completely outshines Michael Shermer in a way that any scientist should say is “statistically interesting.”

The SCENARIO: Jeffrey reads NINE charts in about TWENTY minutes. Most charts are usually given an hour of study each. EXPERIMENT I: face-to-face reading with a skeptic. The subject, afterwards, said Jeffrey’s reading “officially blew me away.” EXPERIMENT II: Nine “blind” readings. Results: 105 of 137—or 77%—of Jeffrey’s statements deemed accurate, ALL scores 63% or over, high of 89%. EXPERIMENT III: The kicker. Two of the nine, unbeknownst to Jeffrey or the subjects, have their charts switched. Accuracy rating drops to 38 and 21% respectively. Switched back to true charts, accuracy goes to 94 and 92%.

I would further …
I would further like to see twins done. My Father and Uncle are twins, with very different personalities. True, Dad had 4 boys and my Uncle had 3, but my uncle is religious, divorced, remarried, a step father, has a terrible relationship with his kids, owns a boat, loves las vegas. My father is an atheist, a war veteran, married for 36 years, better familial relations (but not perfect of course) etc. Their personalities are vastly different despite their common birthday and place.

As for the other …
As for the other readings, some of the “wrongs” are REALLY wrong and many are just plain subjective. Who would say they were ugly? Of course everyone wants to think of themselves as handsome. Who thinks of themselves as selfish? LOTS of women love to dance. To me, the “right” answers were often very subjective or general. I want to see all the readings and listen to all the reactions.

Obviously you have …
Obviously you have never been to India, or were not paying attention. Half the men have mistresses yet paradoxically, girls are aborted at a much higher rate than male fetuses. Further, many fruit bearing plants HAVE female and male sexes, so they do have “mothers”, just not in the sense animals do. 3rd, India is a very poor, very dirty place where hinduism and vedic philosophy have encouraged an oppressive caste system which leaves entire populations as “untouchable”.

I was just thinking …
I was just thinking that myself. “Hmmm, within 3 years something major has happened, changed careers or family member died”. Well I a different star sign than the subject, in the last three years my Grandmother died and I changed careers. What adult between 20 and 45 doesn’t have a life-shift within 3 years? A divorce, a birth, a marriage, a death, a new house, a job change etc. its so easy to cold read, Its fun to watch someone like Derren Brown do it.

Any of the error …
Any of the error can be attributed to his own mistakes that any human would make. Astrology is a tough subject to master.

And you can’t find …
And you can’t find out about your past or future by looking at the stars. -Me

Which Buddha are you quoting? It sounds like he’s talking about causality. I’m talking about the testability of astrological claims.

No way, the fact …
No way, the fact that Barnum statements make people feel like the reading is about them is PROOF that Vedic astrology works!

They aren’t making statements about the afterlife, they’re making real, testable claims about the world in which we live.

In that first …
In that first reading, he just kept throwing out “major life events” until one stuck. Classic cold reading.

People put on weight after 40. No kidding. Opinion-like stuff, like charisma, someone who’s supporting, etc. If you put out general stuff that applies to almost everyone (as pretty much all horoscopes do), you’re going to get good hits.

As this is the 400 comment,i think i will stop here! Forget about trying to find your past births, your wasting your time. These are the days of the cheaters and the cheated, so if you insist on chasing the wind be advised. At least a vedic astro reading willgive you a semblance of what you did before, but dont you want to prepare for future occurences? This is the true divine blessing of jyotish. Hari om
