Seems to be a bit of a spirit or emotion lifter..So many people are looking for reasons to feel better about themselves and their situations reguardless of the fact that they could possibly be all lies...We are so willing to believe in anything sometimes...Just try Jesus...He never fails..
References :
Whilst Tropical astrology is consistently accurate (for me, at least) I see no reason to change to another method.

( Are you prone to depression? Your style is quite offensive )

Vedic Astrology is very precise and involves astronomy and math in detail with lots of calculations for exact planetary, stellar and star, positions and there movements considering correction for the variables you have indicated and gives a considerable degree of dependable predictability of the past, present and future. It is helpful in a way to make you aware of the high probability of the situations/events so as to be prepared and resolve the issues more effectively.
References :
First off, we are aware of the precession of the equinoxes. Vedic astrology takes it into consideration as well. Western astrology does not take this into consideration when drawing a birthchart, as the signs are lined up as they would correspond to the seasons of the year, and so they are left as symbolic of the time of year that a person is born....so even though the sun was technically in Scorpio when I was born, due to the time of year that I was born (late fall, almost winter), I am a Sagittarius Sun. You're not laying anything new on us by bringing up the precession of the equinoxes, somebody uses this argument to try to disprove astrology on this forum on at least a weekly basis. In doing this, though, they're not really disproving astrology, they're just expressing a preference for a different method of interpretation (vedic) than western astrology, regardless of whether or not they realize this.

Further, I doubt that you're shocking anyone with the knowledge that the earth is not in fact the center of our Galaxy (not the Universe....the Sun isn't even the center of the Universe, BTW). The reason that the earth is used as the center of the birthchart is because that's where *we* are located. Having the earth in the center of the birthchart reflects that the positions of the planets (and luminaries sun and moon, asteroids, fixed stars, etc...) are being viewed from our perspective here on earth. However, if the fact that the sun is not the center of the birthchart is what deters you from astrology, perhaps you'd be interested in heliocentric astrology, in which the sun *is* used as the center of the chart.

As far as what anyone gets out of astrology goes, this would be my opinion:

Astrology, the study of the aforementioned planets, luminaries, etc..., their movements and relationship to each other, and their effects on (or reflection of) the conditions of our lives and ourselves is there as a tool for those who would be so inclined as to use it. Those who are not so inclined may choose not to do so. I believe it's called "free will". Regardless of whether or not you "believe in" astrology or choose to use this tool, the fact remains that the planets etc... will still have an effect on/reflect what is going on in your life at this moment. You don't have to believe in it. A competent astrologer can take the chart of a "non-believer" and still fairly accurately estimate what is going on in that person's life by observing the positions of the planets both at the time of birth, and using charts drawn up for the present time (called a transit chart), for the day which is the same number of days away from the date of the person's birth as the number of years of age of the person (called a solar progressed chart), ...and more...

Whether or not the person for whom the chart is being interpreted "believes" in astrology is irrelevant, as astrology is not something which needs "belief". Astrology is observable at work in all things we do, whether we choose to observe it ourselves, or whether someone else is observing it for us.

What you get out of it is what you put into it, though. If you're not interested in looking past the sun sign before you dismiss astrology (and the sun sign is really the very tip of the iceberg), then you're likely not going to get all that much out of it.

I suggest getting your birthchart drawn here:

http://www.astro.com

and reading the interpretations of ALL of the planets, signs, etc....at the very least before dismissing it alltogether, though.

It's easy and it's free.
References :
Sure, all this stuff is known but it is ignored. It has to be 12 signs because 13 is a prime number. It can't be divided so it won't work.

Humans are pattern seeking animals and this can make us gullible. We are attracted to the "too good to be true" of the paranormal. Few take the time to investigate the claims and choose blind belief. The belief persists because astrology makes money. Hundreds millions are spent on readings, books, and trinkets. It is like belonging to your own club.

It does not matter that astrology claims fail to do better than chance. If one type does not seem right then you can try another type. Which one is true does not matter. The belief system is so strong, rational thinking takes a back seat. Not only do these people believe it works, it must work.
References :
..that was maybe one of the most confusing things I have ever read..

I read it for entertainment, for me its not about stars and planets, but personality types. I read about it as a sort of guide. Mine fits my personality, and is strangely accurate for my friends and family as well. So, I take from it what I can..and thats about it.

Its a good way to label and group a personality type, and I think there is one to cover just about all the main personality types you will find in people. Im a Capricorn personality..even if I wasnt born in January..the description of a Capricorn personality type matches me. My mom is a Gemini, the Gemini personality type matches her. So its helpful for me to read how to sort out problems between those two personality types..forgetting about birth dates, stars, and planets..and looking at the psychological personality type grouping of it. I think it can be useful as a guide, but not something to take literally, or as a form of fortune telling. Its not something I would base my life on, but it is interesting, and (I believe) somewhat accurate.
